Eva Clinics put at your disposal not only the best experts, but also the most complete and innovative treatments such as Mini IVF or minimal ovarian stimulation IVF.
It is a more natural treatment than conventional IVF, it is cheaper, simpler and more comfortable because the woman undergoes a gentler hormonal procedure to stimulate ovaries.
WHAT IS MINI IVF?
Mini IVF or IVF/minimal ovarian stimulation is an alternative treatment to the conventional in Vitro Fertilisation. The objective is obtaining a smaller number of eggs (from 3 to 5).
Subsequently, the process is similar: the eggs are fertilized with sperm in the laboratory by using advanced techniques to create the best embryos.
Different from other techniques and treatments, ovarian stimulation is minor and a smaller amount of hormones are used.
Clomiphene citrate is typically used, an oral medication which is cheaper than gonadotropin. In this way the number of punctures and discomforts is reduced.
Eva Clinics have developed The Pregnancy Success Study to establish the expected success percentage of the treatment for your concrete case. It is totally free and we will previously deliver it to you before starting the treatment in order to let you aware of the possibilities you have to achieve a successful pregnancy in every cycle.
FOR WHOM IS IT INDICATED?
Mini IVF treatment is indicated in the following cases:
- Women with a good ovarian reserve.
- Patients with a high risk of suffering ovarian hyper stimulation.
- Candidates for intrauterine insemination which desire a more effective treatment.
- Women which want to restrict the number of created embryos and don’t want to cryopreserve their eggs and/or embryos.
- Women with a poor ovarian reserve. On many occasions, patients with a little reserve produce the same quantity of eggs with the Conventional IVF as that with mild stimulation and the quality is similar independently on the used treatment. The objective is obtaining quality eggs and reducing the side effects caused by medication.
PHASES OF TREATMENT
1. OVARIAN STIMULATION
On the second or third day of the menstrual cycle, we start a diary oral stimulation treatment by administering clomiphene citrate (CC) until follicles are ready for ovulation. The purpose of this first phase is assembling more follicles than the natural cycle but not as many as conventional stimulation.
2. FOLLICULAR PUNCTURE
It is performed in the same way as that conventional in vitro Fertilisation with some advantages. Since there is a less follicular development, there is also a lower ovaries’ sensitivity and less sedation is necessary.
3. EMBRYO CULTURE AND FERTILISATION
Once the oocytes have been removed through the puncture we proceed to the oocytes’ insemination with your partner’s or donor’s sperm in the laboratory with the help of a pipette. The next day we check if the union has given rise to the zygote.
4. EMBRYO TRANSFER
Embryo transfer is the last and decisive step of the process to obtain your pregnancy by Mini In Vitro Fertilisation. It’s a crucial phase of the treatment that is carried out approximately 72 hours after the follicular puncture.
The process is very simple even if it is performed in the operating room as the puncture procedure. Embryos are deposited in the uterus through a thin catheter which is made with a very adaptable material in order not to damage the walls of the uterine cavity and there is no need to be under sedation because it is a painless process.
After the embryo transfer you need to rest approximately half an hour. Then you can return to normal activities obviously always in moderation.
The biggest clomiphene citrate disadvantage is probably the negative effect on the endometrium. To avoid this, an exhaustive control is performed to check the endometrium growth during ovarian stimulation. If necessary it is supplemented with estrogens prior to the transfer. Nevertheless if the endometrium doesn’t reach the necessary characteristics for the transfer, the embryos are vitrified and transferred during the natural cycle.
5. PROCESS AFTER EMBRYO TRANSFER
Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy text is performed and two options are taken in consideration which are the following:
OPTION 1. You get pregnant
In Vitro Fertilisation treatment has been successfully completed. Starting from this moment you can be discharged and kept under gynaecological supervision by your usual gynaecologist or by Eva Clinics specialized gynaecologist, the choice is yours.
OPTION 2. You don’t get pregnant
When the cycle doesn’t finish with pregnancy, the most important thing is not lose your hope and keep calm. The fact that you don’t get pregnant during the first In Vitro fertilisation cycle doesn’t mean that you can’t get it during the subsequent cycles. In light of this there are two options:
a. If you have frozen embryos we can make a Frozen embryo transfer, meaning, embryos which have been cryopreserved are transferred to the uterus like in the first In Vitro Fertilisation cycle. It is also good to mention that preparing the uterus to receive a frozen embryos transfer is much simpler because repeating the ovarian stimulation and the follicular puncture process will be not necessary.
b. If you don’t have frozen embryos, we go ahead and try with a second cycle, starting In Vitro Fertilisation process again from zero.
How many Mini IVF cycles can you undergo?
It is advisable to do up to three Mini IVF cycles. Eva Clinics will guide you in the most appropriate way to perform the treatment. We will assess how the first Mini IVF cycle went and if the assessment is correct we advise you to repeat the cycle.
